5 spiced tempura oysters with fresh lime and crispy shallots.

  • 1 dozen fresh oysters
  • ½ recipe tempura batter as above
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese 5 spice
  • Drizzle of sticky soy sauce
  • Fresh lime to serve
  • Handful crispy shallots (available from most Asian delicatessen)
  1.  Whisk the Chinese 5 spice into the batter. Once combined, drop in the oysters, reserving the shell for serving.
  2.  In hot oil, drop the oysters one at a time. They should only cook for about a minute, or until lightly golden and crisp. Once cooked, remove from oil, drain, season with a little salt and place back into shell. Serve immediately with fresh lime, crispy shallots and sticky soy sauce.
